Located in Oak Park, Michigan, Detect-It LLC is an AI software and neural net technology company. Our team brings nearly a century of combined expertise in automotive engineering, coding, design, programming, and software development. Founded in 2020 and launched in June 2021, Detect-It was built after our founders ran headlong into the hurdles and complexities of creating and managing AI for manufacturing applications using existing coding-based approaches — and decided to build the platform they always wished existed.

our story

In 2020, Kevin Kerwin — after 35+ years building automation and robotics systems at ARKK Engineering and growing International Wheel and Tire into a dominant global player — looked at the AI vision software landscape and saw the same problem everywhere: engineers, plant managers and quality managers couldn’t do it themselves. You needed coders, data scientists, cloud subscriptions, weeks and months of time and a willingness to hand your IP to someone else's server to get anything working. He and Principal Software Architect Zach Davis set out to build something different. Something JUST for the manufacturing environment.

The result was Net Builder and Net Runner — a coder-free, on-prem AI vision platform that runs on any camera, any NVIDIA GPU PC, behind your firewall, with no internet connection required. If you can take a video and draw a box, YOU can build AI with Detect-It.

Detect-It is a visual AI company. We develop neural nets to create human-like intelligence that can "see" whatever you teach it to see — defects, tools, components, people, behaviors, fill levels, labels, fasteners. If you can see it with your own human eyes, Detect-It can detect it.

What is Visual AI?
Visual AI — also known as computer vision — teaches computers to interpret and understand visual information from live video feeds. Detect-It's visual AI analyzes pixel data in real time to recognize objects, detect anomalies, verify assembly, and make pass/fail decisions — at up to 30 frames per second, all behind your firewall, all without a coder.
Visual AI — What Detect-It Does
Sees the real world through a camera and makes real-time decisions based on what it detects. Trained on your specific parts, processes, and environments. Acts as the intelligent eyes on your factory floor — catching defects, verifying assembly, tracking tools, and triggering responses the moment something is detected. Runs on your hardware, behind your firewall, with no internet connection required.
Generative AI — What Detect-It Is Not
Creates new content — text, images, video, audio — by learning patterns from massive datasets. Tools like ChatGPT, DALL-E, and Midjourney are generative AI. They produce outputs, not decisions. Generative AI doesn't watch your production line, doesn't inspect your parts, and doesn't trigger a PLC when a defect is found. It generates — Detect-It detects.
