Smart Station: Engine Assembly With Worker Instructions

In this application we use the power of Detect-It AI to guide a worker through a simulated engine assembly. Using Detect-It Net Builder we taught neural nets the part types and locations for the assembly then scripted worker instructions and target boxes to guide proper assembly. Using Detect-It and AI you can ensure "no faults forward" in your manufacturing line.

 

Smart Station: Assembly Assistant

Detect-It™ Smart Assembly Assistant eliminates errors in assembly processes by embedding “Actual Intelligence” (AI) into the tools and process equipment being used for assembly. It guides the operator through the correct assembly process, step by step, validates that the correct tool and component are being used, ensures proper ergonomics and maintains a video record of the assembly process for traceability and record keeping. Most importantly, Smart Assembly Assistant automatically trains new operators with on screen guidance for every tool and every step of the process. Smart Assembly Assistant simply WON’T ALLOW ANYONE TO PRODUCE ERRORS, eliminating your scrap, rework and the possibility of your customer getting damaged/defective products. Smart Assembly: Tool Positioning and Bolt Identification

With Detect-It you can create a Net that sees where your tool is and what bolt you are approaching. This allows for complete customization of torque profiles by bolt. It also ensures the worker is on the correct bolt in a build order and can disengage the gun if the wrong bolt is selected. With Detect-It AI software you’ve never had more visibility or control over your industrial assembly process.

Smart Assembly: Electrical Connector and Tabs Detection Application

In this application we are showing how Detect-It Net Builder and Net Runner can detect whether the electrical connectors on the back of a fascia are open or closed and whether the tabs on the clips are seated or not. We have had a lot of interest in using Detect-It software for this particular inline inspection so as not to move defective parts further into the assembly process. "No faults forward" is the Detect-It motto. This demo highlights our use of robot cameras to move around a part and zoom in on specific features for detection. This way one camera can replace an array of expensive fixed cameras.

 

Smart Assembly: Vehicle Headliner Lock Detection Application

Detect-It is camera-agnostic. This demo shows how a PTZ Camera (Pan/Tilt/Zoom), typically used for security purposes, can be used for AI powered quality control. The camera is programmed to check to ensure all the headliner locks are installed properly. Each lock is analyzed and at the end of the circuit, if all locks have been detected, the part is approved to advance into assembly. If any of the locks are defective or missing the part will not pass inspection and can be fixed before it gets further along the assembly process.

 

Smart Assembly: Wiring Harness Build Detection

Here we created a Detect-It Net to watch how a wiring harness was assembled. The first build shows that the harness is in the wrong position in the fixture. This allows the worker to adjust the build and correctly send the part down the line assembled correctly. Detect-It’s goal is to allow no faults forward.

Smart Assembly: Seat Foam Mold Component Detection

Here is an example showing Detect-It being used to detect components in seat foam molds. One stationary camera above the rotary fixture watches to ensure that all the clips and components for each mold are properly in place before the foam is poured. Note how the worker’s presence has no impact on detection of components in the mold. By not requiring a stop station for this quality check production is much more efficient.

Smart Assembly: Robotic Weld Cell Verification

Ensuring welds in a robotic cell has been a challenge for manufacturers. The beauty of Detect-It is that it can do things that have been done before more easily and efficiently and also allows you to do things that were never possible before. A single camera above the robot watches to ensure the 4 welds are complete. The flashing, smoke and heat from the assembly process are no match for Detect-It’s AI Net detection capabilities.

Detect-It™ Smart Assembly Part Selection Detection is wearable, POV error-proofing. After learning your inventory, cameras in the wearable Detect-It™ accessories analyze and recognize which products are in which bins as well as which bin or part the user is pointing at, reaching for, or holding in their hand. Real-world responses can include lights, sirens or alert horns or a buzzing in the wearable to indicate an improper selection. Smart Assembly: Rundown Detection

The Detect-It™ Rundown Detection application ensures that every bolt, part, nut or screw in your assembly is completely set and installed correctly and to programmed specifications. Torque and angle verification can’t tell you if your part is completely seated and flush but Detect-It™ Rundown Detection can. SMART LABEL

 

Smart Label: Quality Detection

Detect-It™ Smart Label Detection works two ways. In Label Quality mode Detect-It™ can be used to ensure that the print quality of labels being produced or applied is at a premium or threshold level. By teaching Detect-It™ what a “good” label looks like, the software is able to determine which labels meet or exceed the quality standard and which fail. Real-world responses can be programmed to ensure failing quality labels don’t make it into production or onto products, saving time and needless expense.

Smart Label: Quality/Placement Detection

Detect-It can be used to ensure proper label fit and application on most any surface or product. In this application we are detecting holographic label application on a plastic colored golf disc. There is only one “good” label and multiple and unlimited variations of “bad” prints. Using Detect-It Net Builder we were able to create a robust, curated Net that can pick out the slightest imperfections anywhere on the surface of the disk.

Smart Label: Verification Detection

In Label Verification mode Detect-It™ can identify which label in your inventory is going on a product, either before or after application. After teaching Detect-It™ all of the items in your label inventory the display will show which label is detected via a bounding box with a name and a percent confidence score. Real-world responses can be programmed for incorrect labels or confidence scores below a certain threshold. Detect-It™ Smart Label Detection works from most any camera, any angle and in varying lighting conditions, variables that would render traditional Vision systems unusable.

SMART MAINTENANCE

 

Smart Maintenance: Filtration Detection

Industrial filters require routine maintenance and specialized tools to ensure consistent and efficient operation. Detect-It helps by being able to analyze the system remotely to indicate the status of the filter, sediment level and slurry in seconds. Specialized machines that squeeze and clean these large filters are a typical maintenance step for industrial filtration operations. This process is time intensive and produces downtime and lost revenue and should only be used when there is no other remedy to the filter clog. Detect-It Filtration Detection can tell you precisely when that is. These cameras can operate in complete darkness and provide human intelligence in a place where humans can’t go. Filtration Detection is part of the Smart Maintenance Suite.


 

Smart Maintenance: Wear Detection

We’ve trained Detect-It to analyze spectral sound data to learn how a machine should sound when running optimally. When it doesn’t, or when any variations are identified, Detect-It™ sends notifications and allows maintenance of issues before they escalate. This type of predictive maintenance simply isn’t available with any other system today. Banging, scraping, whining, ticking or subtle tonal shifts could indicate the early onset of structural or mechanical failures in motors or assembly equipment. Detect-It™ ”hears” the issues we wish we could hear ourselves – even the subtlest noise in a loud factory setting can now be isolated and singled out. Detect-It can alert maintenance personnel about potential problems and failures very early and allow maintenance of affected equipment to be scheduled into production and before major mechanical failures which could completely shut down production lines.

Smart Presenter: Gesture Control Using AI

An example of how you can use Detect-It Net Builder AI Software to learn gestures that can then be tied to triggering real world responses. This could be employed by business presenters, entertainers, media events and could also be used to remotely run and control machinery in manufacturing.

Smart Surface: Alignment & Gap Detection

The Detect-It™ Smart Surface Alignment & Gap Detection application will ensure that alignment of any objects or parts is correct to thousandths of an inch. Once Detect-It™ is taught what “Good” alignment is, all future detections will quickly identify those parts that fall outside of Good parameters. Alignment & Gap Detection learns acceptable gap tolerances for parts in your production run and ensures all assemblies coming down the line are within spec and flagging those that need correction prior to final assembly. Smart Surface: Seat Wrinkle and Defect Detection

In this application demonstration a set of still images was provided to train Detect-It Net Builder from. The challenge was to detect wrinkles in the seat fabric/leather as well as stitching errors and gaps in seams. Detect-It Nets can make detections from still images just as effectively as they can from live-streaming video.

 

Smart Surface: Facia Scratch Detection

Smart Surface Facia Scratch Detection does the work of 6 people to detect scratches, scuffs & imperfections in surfaces – if you can see it, Detect-It™ can too, but with more consistency and more accuracy. Existing Vision Systems are complex and unreliable. Those systems require very specific part location and lighting and typically involve assemblies or parts to pause in a stop station to work. Detect-It uses live video feeds which allows assemblies to keep moving - increasing efficiency and decreasing assembly times. Scratches, scuffs, nicks and blemishes on parts and surfaces can't hide from Detect-It.™ Our trained Scratch Detection Net has an error rate of less than 1% vs. 25% for human inspectors. Smart Surface Facia Scratch Detection works in normal lighting environments, is camera agnostic and can run 24-7-365.

Once you teach Detect-It™ what a “good” surface or part looks like, our software does the rest. The smallest scratch or imperfection can trigger real-world responses that you program including part rejection, flagging, lights, alarms and more. Smart Entrance: Mask Detection

The Detect-It™ Smart Entrance Mask Detection net helps keep factory entrances safe and secure by detecting people entering your facility and determining whether or not they have a properly worn mask on or not. This net can be combined with an electronic door lock to prevent entry if not wearing a mask.
